Since its formation in March 1992, the international manufacturer and operator association CAN in Automation (CiA) e. V. is offering technical, product-specific and general information on CAN*). The goal is to spread knowledge on CAN to make way for the future development of the CAN-protocol. Over 500 companies, one of which is SCHAEFER GmbH, are currently registered member of CiA e. V.
CiA-employees support the international standardisation of CAN-protocols. CiA-members develop specifications that are published as CiA-specifications. These describe both the physical level and the application level as well as the device-specific profiles.
Furthermore CiA organises joint marketing activities, for example trade show stands both in Germany and abroad, collective seminars and plug-fests. Additional services are speeches at international conferences and congresses, CAN-schooling for beginners in certain countries as well as public relations including technical articles, user reports and press releases on CAN-technology.
*) CAN – Controller Area Network – is the leading serial BUS-system for embedded controllers. More than two billion CAN-nodes have been sold since the development of the CAN-protocol in the early eighties. CAN is an established network which was standardised internationally in 1993 already (ISO 11898-1).
CANopen® and CiA® are registered community trade marks of CAN in Automation e. V.
